Vinícius double sends Brazil top of Group A
By KickoffHQ Media · 20 June 2026
Brazil began their quest for a sixth world title in style, brushing aside a stubborn Croatia side 3-1 to go top of Group A on goal difference.
A statement start
Vinícius Júnior set the tone inside twelve minutes, cutting in from the left and curling beyond the Croatia keeper. Andrej Kramarić levelled against the run of play, but Raphinha restored the lead early in the second half before Vinícius wrapped up the points.
"We controlled the game from the first minute. This is the standard we expect of ourselves," said the Brazil head coach.
What it means
The result leaves Brazil in command of the group ahead of their decisive final-round meeting with Japan. Croatia, beaten but not outclassed, will look to regroup against Mexico.
